Eccho Rights announced today that SCTV will be producing a local version of hit drama series Elif in Indonesia. The format deal follows the licencing of the first two series of the original show.

Banardi Rachmad, general manager for programming acquisition at SCTV, commented: “Elif has turned around our daytime programming and had such an unforeseen impact on our audiences. We now want to remake the show to give it more of a local flavor in order to widen the appeal of the show here in Indonesia.”

Production on the local version will start in two weeks, with SCTV’s sister company Screenplay Productions at the helm. The show will be on air in January 2016, Eccho Rights informs.

Elif launched on Indonesian screens earlier this year and was an immediate hit, more than doubling the share for the channel. In Turkey, Elif is produced by Green Yapim and airs on Kanal 7 where audiences have increased seven-fold. In Bosnia Elif has also doubled the audience share for OBN. Eccho Rights has also sold the series to PRVA in Serbia, Kanal 5 Macedonia and Netflix in the UK and US.

Elif tells the story of a little girl whose mother sends her away to live on a farm to protect her from her dangerous stepfather. Only the head of the household staff knows where Elif comes from, but not even she knows that Elif is the daughter of the son of the rich farming family. As time goes by Elif’s secrets start to unravel and her evil gets closer finding her.
