Nine seasons of DRG’s Peep Show land in the Czech Republic
 07 Sep 2018
DRG announced that it has recently closed a number of deals for both new and classic comedy series, which will see titles as peculiarly British as Detectorists and Peep Show airing everywhere from the Canada to the Middle East.

HBO in the US has acquired season three of Tracey Ullman’s Show, Tracey Ullman’s topical new sketch show, which she co-writes and appears in as a range of characters including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and First Lady Melania Trump. Knowledge Networks in Canada has acquired all four seasons (40 hours) of irreverent comedy drama Teachers, starring Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead) as teacher having a midlife crisis – despite the fact he’s only in his mid-20s.

In Europe, Czech Television has licensed all nine season of Peep Show for a primetime comedy slot on CT1; YLE in Finland has acquired all three seasons of Detectorists and VRT in Belgium has taken both seasons of surreal hospital comedy Green Wing, starring Tamsin Greig (Episodes, Black Books), Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) and Stephen Mangan (Episodes, The Split). HBO Europe has also acquired Tracey Ullman’s Show.

The first two seasons of Detectorists have also been acquired by BBC Worldwide for broadcast on BBC First in the Middle East and North Africa.

Finally, across Asia Pacific, season four of Plebs (6 x 30), the modern comedy set in ancient Rome, has been acquired by both Comedy Central in New Zealand and ABC in Australia, while Sky in New Zealand has taken all three seasons of the highly acclaimed, classic comedy Father Ted. ITV Choice in Asia has also taken Tracey Ullman’s Show.

Scott Kirkpatrick, DRG’s SVP sales for North and South America concluded the deals with HBO and Knowledge Networks, and has previously licensed Peep Show, Spaced, Black Books and Shameless to Hulu in the US, he comments: “For decades, British comedies have been making their mark on the world stage and DRG is proud to be placing some of the best modern classics, such as Detectorists and Peep Show with broadcasters today. We also have a number of SVOD deals for these and similar titles in the pipeline and are pleased that these platforms are seeing the value in offering full box sets of our great British classics to their subscribers, allowing for the marathon viewing experiences that these addictive programs create.”
