Mastermind’s ‘black leather chair’ travels to Kazakhstan #MIPCOM
 07 Oct 2018
“I’ve started so I’ll finish” will soon become a catchphrase in Kazakhstan as BBC Studios announce ahead of MIPCOM, the sale of the Mastermind format to Khabar Agency JSC who will produce 21 episodes to air on the Khabar channel later this year. Kazakhstanis, as in the UK version, will compete to win the honor of being crowned Kazakhstan’s Mastermind as they take to the black chair to be tested on their specialist subject and general knowledge.

One of Britain’s most enduring and best loved quiz shows (debuted on BBC in 1972), Mastermind has previously sold to nine territories including Australia, Ireland and Russia.

Sumi Connock, Creative Director of Formats, BBC Studios, commented: “We’re thrilled that a huge heritage brand like Mastermind, which has been on air in the UK for over 40 years is still being welcomed into new territories. We also have a great line up of brand new factual entertainment formats this MIPCOM and of course, an exciting addition to the Dancing with the Stars family with the ray of sunshine that is Dancing with the Stars: Juniors.”

Dancing with the Stars: Juniors is one of a number of brand new formats that BBC Studios will be bringing to MIPCOM. This fresh take on the world’s most-loved dance format will pair up celebrity kids with a new generation of junior dance professionals, with each couple mentored by a seasoned Dancing with the Stars pro. Featuring brand new hosts and judges, including Emmy ® award winning La La Land and current Dancing with the Stars choreographer, Mandy Moore, the first local version of Juniors premieres on America’s ABC network on 7 October.

Every day ordinary people are facing extraordinary moments, from life changing surgery to taking a driving test, scoring a big contract for a struggling business, or the life-changing moment of adopting a child. In One Day That Changed My Life, cameras are there every step of the way, offering intimate access to real lives and all the dramatic twists and turns along the way. The series launched on BBC One this autumn, ranking first in its time slot.

In Make Me a Dealer the mission is on to find amateur enthusiasts who have an eye for antiques and the potential talent to become successful dealers. In each episode, two enthusiasts go head to head under the watchful eye of an expert - but which one of them will make the most profit and come out on top?

Also new to market, and being distributed by BBC Studios, are three scripted formats including the BBC One daytime hit, Shakespeare & Hathaway, featuring an unlikely and entertaining detective duo who get to work solving crimes in Stratford-upon-Avon. Baby Cow’s High and Dry is a hilarious look at what it is like to be stranded with the world’s most irritating man, and Bullion Productions’ Wannabe, centers around a middle-aged female ex pop star determined to hit the big time again.
