HBO Europe unveils fall/winter line-up of original drama
HBO Europe has released the trailer for its new Polish original Blinded by the Lights and confirmed the premiere date for Academy Award®-winning director Danis Tanović's Success – as it unveils a bold and varied fall/winter slate of local original programming. Three brand new originals and two new seasons of successful returning series will premiere day-and-date across HBO Europe territories.
Blinded by the Lights charts seven days of a Warsaw cocaine dealer as his meticulously ordered life begins to sink into chaos. Based on Jakub Żulczyk's novel of the same name, the eight-part series is directed by Krzysztof Skonieczny (Hardkor Disko) and is written by Krzysztof Skonieczny and Jakub Żulczyk. Blinded by the Lights is HBO Europe's latest Polish show following two successful series of border guard drama Wataha/The Pack and two seasons of conspiracy thriller Pakt/The Pact. It premieres on October 27. Tanović's first series for television – and HBO Europe's first drama from the Adria region – is confirmed to premiere on December 26. Set in contemporary Zagreb, Success follows the intertwining stories of four strangers who are bound together irrevocably by a violent event. As the consequences of their actions threaten to catch up with them, they decide to regain control of their lives. Success was written by Marjan Alčevski who won the HBO Adria First Draft screenwriting competition with the pilot episode. Success and Blinded by the Lights join high-stakes Romanian-German co-production Hackerville as the third brand new show in the line-up. Blending high-stakes investigation with personal drama, the six-part series – which had its world premiere in competition at Zurich International Film Festival last week – was created by Ralph Martin and Joerg Winger (Deutschland 83/86) from UFA Fiction and is produced by Cristian Mungiu and Tudor Reu through Mobra Films. The series is directed by Igor Cobileanski and Anca Miruna Lăzărescu and written by Laurențiu Rusescu, Steve Bailie, Daniel Sandu and Ralph Martin. Hackerville follows previous Romanian originals including Valea Mutã/Silent Valley and two seasons of hit gangster drama Umbre, with a third season green-lit to head into production this month. The third seasons of the multi award-winning Golden Life (Hungary) and adaptation of In Treatment (Czech Republic) complete HBO Europe's fall/winter slate. Antony Root, EVP of Original Programming and Production, HBO Europe, says: "We are immensely proud of the five very different series we are launching over the next four months. They cover a rich mix of genres, stories and settings and with each show launching day-and-date in all our 17 European territories, we are delighted to be offering our subscribers a greater range and volume of original dramas than ever before." HBO Europe has been producing original drama in Central Europe since 2010. In 2016 it expanded production activities to Scandinavia and Spain, and in 2017 to the Adria region. Previous series include Burning Bush (Czech Republic), The Pack (Poland), Shadows (Romania), Wasteland (Czech Republic) and Golden Life (Hungary). HBO Europe originals in production include Gösta (Sweden), Beforeigners (Norway), Oblivious (Czech Republic) and Umbre III (Romania). RELATED
