Nurses recommissioned in Slovakia
 23 Nov 2018
Sestričky, the Slovak medical drama based on Finnish format Nurses will return for a second season following a successful first run this fall, Eccho Rights reports.

Broadcast on Markiza during September and October, the series scored an average rating of 9% and share over 25% throughout its run, bowing out with a high of 28%, making it the best performing new series in Slovakia for the Autumn season.
"Sestričky was the biggest launch this autumn in Slovakia and we're already excited to get the second season on to screens across the country! Emotional stories of drama, love and stressful jobs with responsibility, the TV universe of our nurses has attracted many viewers who will be pleased to hear that their story continues next fall," says Matthias Settele, General Director of TV Markiza.

Nurses looks at the stresses and strains of the trauma department from the perspective of four colleagues who deal with life in very different ways. In Finland, the original (Syke, produced by Yellow Film & TV) ran for four highly successful seasons on Yle, drawing massive audiences. The highly anticipated fifth season started earlier this month on Finnish streamer Ruutu, as reported by TVBIZZ.

Elsewhere the format has proven hugely popular on the international market, and was commissioned by TV4 in Sweden to become its first ever medical drama, where it rated highly for two seasons with the Swedish version selling to DR in Denmark and TV 2 in Norway.

"Nurses is a wonderful format that has been a key part of our catalogue for a number of years. We have secured many international deals for a series and script that is gripping and emotional and speaks to producers and broadcasters looking for a unique take on the medical drama genre," says Fredrik af Malmborg

The scripts have also been picked up by producers in the UK, Spain, Slovenia, and various other international territories, while the Finnish readymade has also aired by broadcasters in Germany and Estonia.
