HBO Europe has greenlit its latest Central European original Tuff Money / Bani negri (pentru zile albe) (w/t) a six-part series from award-winning Romanian writer-director Daniel Sandu (Un pas in urma serafimilor/One Step Behind the Seraphim, Hackerville), produced by Cristian Mungiu’s Mobra Films.

Two lovable losers joke about being able to commit the perfect crime. The joke backfires when their words are misconstrued, and they find themselves forced into actually having to commit the robbery. They are totally unprepared, both for the crime and its bizarre aftermath.

Daniel Sandu, writer and director says: “I wanted to create a story at the thin line of comedy, a drama about ordinary people who get caught up in incredible situations. If I were to sum up the story of Bani negri in one word, it would be "consequences." It is about the domino effect of actions triggered by one little innocent joke."

Daniel Sandu is an award-winning writer and director. His 2017 feature film Un pas in urma serafimilor/One Step Behind the Seraphim was nominated for a record 15 Gopo Awards (2018), winning eight including Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. His television writing credits include HBO Europe’s Hackerville.

Tuff Money (w/t) sees HBO Europe continuing its successful collaboration with Mobra Films, following 2018’s Romanian-German series Hackerville.

Shooting begins next month in Piatra Neamt and continues in Onesti and Bucharest. Executive Producers are Johnathan Young and Antony Root for HBO Europe.
