Key Buyers Event: Digital Edition closes successfully

The first virtual market of Russian content Key Buyers Event: Digital Edition, organized by Roskino with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of Moscow, completed its work on June 15. More than 1.400 participants registered for the event, around 600 of them were representatives of international companies from 70 countries. The list included Marvel, Apple TV, France Televisions, Wild Bunch, RTL, AMC Networks, Mediaset, Beta Film, Koch Media, the largest Chinese online cinema iQiyi and many others.

The largest Russian holdings became the general partners of the event: National Media Group (Art Pictures Studio, Vodorod, CTC Media, more.tv, Channel 5) and Gazprom Media (GPM RTV subholding, Central Partnership, NTV) as well as CTB Film Company and studio Yellow, Black and White. The Association of Film and Television Producers, the Association of Animated Film of Russia and Expocontent also acted as partners. Technological platform of the event was developed and supported by SPB TV.

Art Pictures Distribution completed negotiations with the JOJ group company for the sale of the feature film A Dog Named Palm (produced by Mars Media and Amedia Production with the participation of OKKO Studios) in Slovakia. The company plans to close deals with Spain, Italy and France at the Cannes online market. At the Key Buyers Event, the company also presented the series Chiki (produced by Mars Media) to the international audience. In the next two weeks, the company plans to finalize negotiations on the movie Sputnik with Korea, Japan and Latin America. The series Successors interested European distributors and television channels the most, along with one of the largest Chinese online platforms. During the event, final negotiations were held on the sale of the series Kitchen. The War for the Hotel with TV channels from Bulgaria and Hungary. Following the talks, the rights to the series were sold to these countries for a period of 3 years.

During Key Buyers Event, Central Partnership (part of Gazprom Media) announced the release of feature film The Blackout (produced by PREMIER Studios) in China on the largest national VOD service iQIYI. Shout! Studios acquired the rights to release the film in the U.S. and Canada. The company also signed deals with the American Shout! Factory and British Signature Entertainment for The Last Frontier to be released in the U.S. and the UK.

GPM RTV subholding presented all the main television channels of the holding under a single brand. Roman Petrenko (director of TNT channel), Alexander Dulerain (general producer of TNT), Valery Fedorovich and Evgeny Nikishov (heads of TV3 and PREMIER Studios film company) took part in a press conference and panel discussions. Channel Match TV conducted online training for Key Buyers Event participants with world and European figure skating champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, winner of the World and European Championships in Athletics (long jump) Daria Klishina and Sofia Tartakova, presenter and commentator Match TV.

Channel NTV presented its signature projects to international producers and also screened new TV shows: the action-packed detective Wolf Trap, which premiered as part of the prestigious international program MIPTV Drama Buyers Summit; the historical series Noble Detective and retro-detective Murderous Fervor. The company's package also featured the popular television formats Super You! and Secret for a Million.

Studio Yellow, Black and White announced the sale of the rights to show the series Gold Diggers to the British video service Walter Presents (Channel 4). Available only on the START video service, the project has already been watched by more than 25 million people. The company also received a large number of requests for projects presented as part of the Key Buyers Event, including the series Sherlock in Russia, Hope, Storm and Cleaned Up. The event resulted in Yellow, Black and White holding talks with partners from Spain, France, Hungary, Germany and the United States.

CTB Film Company received offers from two channels in Eastern Europe and Italy for Dzhanik Faiziev’s Goalkeeper of the Galaxy, interested partners from Spain and Germany with Oleg Pogodin’s The Little Humpbacked Horse. The company also showed new full-feature animation projects The Barkers: Mind the Cats!, The Sweet Monster, The Nutcracker and the Magic Flute, and new episodes of Luntik (Moonzy and his friends). The CTB film company held talks with colleagues from China, Italy, France, Finland, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.

As part of the Key Buyers Event, Sovtelexport (official distributor of VGTRK content) showed the project Ekaterina Pretenders. Now, the company is at the final stage of negotiations with Japan; representatives of Romania, Colombia, North America have shown interest, and as part of the online meetings, a Chinese distributor made an offer to purchase the series. Sovtelexport is also finalizing the signing of a licensing agreement for the Dostoevsky television series in South Korea and has received an offer for the feature films Kandahar, The Spy and the Soul of the Spy for digital distribution in Latin America. State television channels in Slovakia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia preliminary confirmed their desire to acquire the rights to sensational series Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes.

Planeta Inform Group of Companies presented exclusive materials on a new project of its own production Ex, which received first offers from distributors from Southeast Asia. The company also signs a contract with a Scandinavian distributor for the Kalashnikov biopic AK-47. The Group also entered into a package agreement on the implementation of digital rights in the United States for films of its catalog - the selection will be available on Amazon Prime, Hulu, Google Play and others, and the horror Queen of Spades: Through the Looking Glass will soon be seen by users of key platforms in English-speaking countries. The science fiction film Coma will be released online in Latin America later this summer and will also appear on key digital sites in the United States. An agreement with a major Indian pay-TV channel for the horror package Bride, Dawn, Queen of Spades: Through the Looking Glass, as well as on the family film Robo, is at the signing stage.

Mirsand made a deal to sell all rights to the movie The Age of Pioneers to Poland, and also sold digital and HV rights to the United States and Canada.

Mint Films has received an offer for the Coronation series produced by Rock Films studio from Spanish television and is in the negotiation phase. A large Chinese television channel became interested in the Battle - the company plans to finalize the deal after the Key Buyers Event. Great interest from international colleagues was also caused by feature 47 by Alexey Uchitel (the film received several offers from festivals and distributors), Winter (representatives of France, Spain, China were interested in the project) and Palmyra of the Rock studio.

All Media presented to international participants the projects Leonid Kogan. Unknown Chronicles, The Last Warrior: The Root of Evil, Hand Made, Hotel Belgrade, the Frenchman. During the market, the company held about 30 meetings with buyers, as well as production companies from Europe, Asia, the United States and Latin America. All transactions that were initiated at the forum are under negotiation.

Russian World Vision has continued negotiations on the film Red Ghost with Chinese, Italian and Spanish companies. The rights have already been sold to a number of European and Asian territories, as well as to the USA, Canada and Latin America. Foreign buyers were interested in the dramas Blockade Diary and Eleven Silent Men, and the horror film Atakan The Bloody Legend attracted partners from Germany, Latin America, Japan and Vietnam. The company is discussing the sale of rights to the Watchman to Latin America.

Odin Media, which traditionally represents documentary content, showed the projects Great Northern Way, Urartu The Forgotten Kingdom, Shchelkin. The Godfather of the Atomic Bomb and The Great Development of Siberia The Nomads in time. The company managed to find more than 50 new purchasing partners from Japan, China, India, Great Britain, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Canada, new producers from Italy and Poland for their own projects. In addition, two package deals were signed with the Czech channel Good TV and the Amazon platform. Active negotiations are underway with major television channels in France and Italy on the sale of premiere content presented as part of KBE.

Other companies that presented their content were production Company Sreda (Tell Her, Ask Martha, Consequenses and Irregular), Star Media (The Rurik Dynasty, The Black Sea, Detective Anna), Sputnik Vostok Production (New Man, The Counted, Up To The Sun), Revolution Film (Mistresses, Run, Girls Got Game), RFG Distribution, Proline Film, Igmar and many others.

Cyber Group Studios, one of the largest French producers and distributors of animated content, announced the creation of joint European animation brand with Soyuzmultfilm – Cyber Soyuz Junior, which will produce animated series and full-feature films for preschoolers.

Wizart announced the release of The Snow Queen: Keepers of Wonders and Sheep and Wolves: Pig Deal on the territory of the UK (Signature Entertainment). Soon, the features will appear on iTunes and Amazon. Gravel Road Distribution Group will distribute Sheep and Wolves in Africa, and Miraj Group will distribute installments of The Snow Queen in India.

Riki Group plans to announce deals for the sale of Tina & Tony on the territory of North America and the Fixies in China. The company also presented Panda and Krash, BabyRiki and full-feature Finnick.

Leading animation companies that presented their projects included Licensing Brands (The Magic Arch), Parovoz, Brand4rent, Digital Television, Kolobanga Media, Agama Film, and others.
