Thousands sign petition urging Netflix to recognize Kosovo as an independent state
Sovran Hoti, a student in the University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren has launched a petition asking Netflix to recognize Kosovo as an independent state in their streaming service, Euronews reports.
“When Kosovars log in on Netflix, their location appears as if they were in Serbia, even though they use Netflix from the Republic of Kosovo. Personally, this has happened to me many times. I can't even verify my phone number because Kosovo does not appear on the list of countries with their phone entries,” is written in the description of the petition launched on “Change.org”. Hoti further argues that Netflix is a US company thus “since US recognizes Kosovo, shouldn’t Netflix add Kosovo as a country on their streaming service as well?” The petition has already been signed by over 17,000 people and the hashtag “NetflixaddKosovo” has been tweeted many times in an attempt to attract more people into signing. Acting President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has also reacted regarding this matter, where through a post on Twitter she calls on Netflix to add the Republic of Kosovo on their map. “Dear @netflix, the people of Kosovo highly enjoy your streaming services and love your work. They deserve to be recognized for this. It’s about time you put the Republic of Kosovo on your map,” Ms. Osmani writes on Twitter. RELATED
