Epic Drama buys content from three major distributors
 13 Jan 2022
Leading international media company Viasat World today announces that it has signed deals with three major content producers and distributors, securing a raft of programming for its premium channel Epic Drama as it marks its 4th anniversary since its launch in markets across Central and Eastern Europe.

Working with ITV Studios, Viasat World has secured 138 hours of premium quality content involving new and returning series across all channels, including for Epic Drama the newest seasons of franchises Endeavour and Murdoch Mysteries as well as Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. Viasat World has secured Pay-TV and Catch-up rights on all titles plus SVOD as part of the deal.

Further new acquisitions by Viasat World for Epic Drama include Sisi and Dalgliesh.

Epic Drama is now available on 200 platforms and to over 20million subscribers across Central and Eastern Europe. The channel is home to premium period drama series from around the globe, offering a variety of dramatic genres - including crime & mystery, thriller, classic literary and real history.

Karin Heijink, SVP Content, Marketing and Products at Viasat World, says: “The rapid growth and success of Epic Drama across CEE has been without doubt due to the strength of content the channel has premiered over the last 4 years. Securing indulgent and thrilling period drama series such as Sisi and Das Boot 3, as well as much loved crime franchises like Endeavour, will delight our loyal audiences.

“As one of Europe’s biggest content aggregators,” Karin continues, “these sizeable deals across a spectrum of genres cement our long-standing and important partnerships with the best global distributors including All3Media International, Beta Film, ITV Studios, and Red Arrow, and will continue to provide compelling viewing across our flagship channels.”

Nicola Andrews, Sales Director EMEA, ITV Studios says: “ITV Studios has a long-running relationship with Viasat World, delivering a wealth of high quality scripted and non-scripted content for its premium channels. We are delighted to have secured this deal with Viasat World which will deliver the very best new content to its audiences across CEE.”

Ben Packwood, Senior Sales Manager CEE, All3Media International noted: “We are thrilled that Epic Drama has been doing well for Viasat World, playing great period dramas that engage audiences throughout the CEE region. We’re confident that our new version of the PD James’ classic detective strand, Dalgliesh, will captivate and entertain with its beautifully crafted who-dunnit narrative”.

Veronika Kovacova, Beta Film’s VP International Sales & Acquisitions for Turkey, Eastern Europe and Poland says: “Following our long-lasting relationship with Viasat World, we are extremely pleased that the legendary story about the Austrian Empress Sisi has found a home on the premium channel Epic Drama. On a wave of success in Germany, Austria, France and Italy, this timeless story now conquers the viewers’ hearts also in the CEE region.”
