CT launches website about Ukraine for children, parents and teachers
Czech Television (CT) is responding to the high demand of teachers for educational materials that they could use in debates with students about the war in Ukraine. The newly established website also helps explain a complex topic to children, in proportion to their age and issues.
The team of the Czech Television children's website has teamed up with experts and answers the most frequently asked questions of young viewers. Where is Ukraine, what is humanitarian aid, what are the sanctions, how to deal with fear or what is actually happening in the territory of a large European state. "Adults sometimes tend to protect children from serious topics, not to talk to them about difficult things. It is natural, but we also know from the numerous reports that send us that they, of course, perceive the whole situation very strongly. They want to understand what is happening, they have concerns or they are genuinely interested in how they can help themselves," said Czech Television’s Štěpánka Sunková. The page about Ukraine is available at https://decko.ceskatelevize.cz/ukrajina . The educational portal of ČT edu collected data on the history, geography and culture of Ukraine for teachers. "Of course, teachers also use news materials that reflect the current situation in their lessons. We can't substitute that on ČT ed. However, when Putin, for example, ordered a nuclear weapon on alert, or when a nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye was shelled, educators began intensively searching on CT edu for videos on how nuclear facilities work. The video entitled Hiroshima and Nagasaki was one of the most watched on the entire ČT edu website last week,” said Alžběta Plívová, who runs this portal. Videos, worksheets and supporting methodologies are in a separate section of the ČT edu website. RELATED
