Twitter starts tagging Belarusian state media accounts
 14 Mar 2022
On March 11, Twitter announced that it started marking the accounts of the state media in Belarus.

"Our teams have long believed that people need to know when they are directly or indirectly interacting with a government entity, and today's addition is based on many years of experience in such interventions," said Twitter's vice president of public policy and communications in Europe, Africa and the Middle East Sinead McSweeney.

Joel Roth, head of the company's professional ethics department, said the labels were added to accounts and tweets, sharing links to state-run media in Belarus after covering their role in the war in Ukraine. He also reminded that Twitter on February 28 launched the labeling of Russian state media.

Then, in four days, the social network recorded more than 45.000 tweets daily with links to Russian state media, but as of March 11, Twitter noticed a drop in views. "The first data shows that our measures are working: we have seen a 30% drop in tweets marked by this expanded policy," Roth said.
