TVP preps Ukrainian language versions of numerous programs
 21 Mar 2022
Almost 2 million refugees fleeing Ukraine after Russia's invasion have already arrived in Poland. It's mostly women and children. Television and radio broadcasters are gradually introducing new content for those fleeing the war in their native language.

Telewizja Polska (TVP) is constantly expanding its offer dedicated to refugees from Ukraine. Since March 14, from Monday to Friday at 16.50 TVP1 has been airing the program Give Ukraine a Hand in Polish and Ukrainian. Refugees can learn from the program, among others what help has been prepared for them, i.e. how to enroll a child in school, find a doctor or apply for a PESEL number. Those who want to help them can find information on how to help effectively and what help is most needed at the moment.

The TVP ABC2 channel started broadcasting slots targeted at Ukrainian children at the beginning of March. The number of programs in Ukrainian within these slots is to be constantly increased. Cartoons are broadcast at 6.00, 12.00 and 18.00. At the same time, TVP is working intensively on the preparation of Ukrainian language versions of programs such as: Friends of Misia and Margolci, Hello, Can I Eat You?, Nela the Small Reporter, Domisie, Zagadki Zwieogromadki, Hello, Hello, Alchemist, Count on Wiktor. The TVP ABC2 channel is available in the TVP GO mobile application, via the tvpstream.vod.tvp.pl website, as well as digital terrestrial television for people with TVs that support HbbTV (hybrid TV), connected to the Internet.

”In the current situation, access to up-to-date information for people from Ukraine in their native language is extremely important. To meet these needs, Telewizja Polska and Emitel launched the transmission of Ukrainian television UA :Pershy”, explained TVP.

If the humanitarian crisis continues and refugees from Ukraine stay in Poland for longer, broadcasters and pay TV operators may prepare more content in Ukrainian. For example, movies, series or documentaries. The demand for Ukrainian language teachers in the Polish media has increased significantly. The Ukrainian subtitles seem to be an easier way to prepare content for refugees. In the era of digital television or streaming services, it is enough to add them to the broadcast channel or video on demand. It is the recipient who decides whether he wants to play them. Is work on such a solution underway? “Telewizja Polska adjusts its offer to the needs, which are analyzed and monitored on an ongoing basis,” informs TVP.

“From the very beginning, as a Group, we undertake many activities for the benefit of Ukrainian citizens. As soon as we introduce any new products, we will inform about them,” said Olga Zomer, spokeswoman for Cyfrowy Polsat. Polsat Box and the Polsat Box Go streaming service have launched the Ukraine 24 channel. You can also watch the Ukrainian FreeDom channel, addressed to the Russian-speaking population, via satellite. The Ukraina 24 channel also found its way to Player, Canal+ online. Onet broadcasts the station with simultaneous translation into Polish. Numerous content in Ukrainian can also be found on the channels of Polish Radio. The public broadcaster also transmits Ukrainian radio signals via the Internet and through the DAB+ multiplex. RMF Group launched a radio station with information for refugees RMF Ukraine, which you can listen to in Dorohusk, Medyka, Lviv and the Tarnopol and Volyn regions.
