Belarusian journalist accused of spying for Ukraine
 24 Mar 2022
The KGB has accused Denis Ivashin of collaborating with the Ukrainian intelligence. Earlier, the journalist was accused of treason.

"The Ukrainian side, having deeply studied the personality of Denis Ivashin, stimulated him in every possible way, using both material rewards and other kinds of incentives that are important for the defendant, taking into account the desire he had already formed to be involved in the fate of Ukraine," BelTA writes.

Referring to the KGB of Belarus, the news agency states that Ivashin was "awarded with a diploma from the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Igor Dolgov", and also had a "certificate of a Ukrainian abroad."

In addition, Ivashin’s account allegedly periodically “received funds in US dollars.”

All this, according to the Belarusian KGB, indicates a "high level of conspiracy."

Earlier, Grodno investigative journalist Denis Ivashin was charged under article 365 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (“interference in the activities of an internal affairs officer”), as well as under article 356 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (“treason”). Under the new article, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

Denis Ivashin was detained on March 12, 2021. Ivashin is the editor of the Belarusian service of the international community InformNapalm, which is engaged in investigations related to the events of 2014 in Ukraine.

A week before his arrest, Ivashin published an article in which he told where former "Berkut" soldiers from Ukraine now serve.

On March 21, the court of the Oktyabrsky district of Grodno rejected the complaint of journalist Denis Ivashin, in which he asked to change the pre-trial restrictions.
