Cableman shuts down because of war in Ukraine
 04 Apr 2022
The industry-focused online publication Cableman is shutting down, its editor-in-chief Yana Belskaya announced.

“When I made this decision two weeks ago, I thought that the easiest way would be to explain it financially. And it almost wouldn't be a lie. A third of Cableman's advertisers have left the country or have announced plans to do so. Another third would certainly cut the budget. I have excellent hearing - and I caught barely audible sighs of relief when I called people with the sad news,” the editor-in-chief said in a message.

According to Belskaya, the reduction in advertising budgets is not the main reason for the termination of the publication. The project could still function thanks to the remaining proceeds.

Cableman is closing due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the transformation of the media space, which put an end to a lot of decent media projects. “You see, I just don’t see the possibility of doing our little journalistic project with “half of the alphabet” that was left to us,” Belskaya said.

The telegram channel of the publication will continue to work, and the archive of Cableman will remain in the public domain. Cableman was positioned as a site for pay TV professionals with news and opinions on "aspects of TV life".
