Parliament working on Pryamiy, Channel 5 and Espresso issue
 21 Apr 2022
Some broadcasters were shut down due to insufficient organization of the nationwide TV marathon. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy Mykita Poturaev.

Asked about the reasons for the suspension of Pryamiy, Channel 5 and Espresso on free DTT broadcasting, Poturaev said: "This happened because there are questions about the organization of a national telethon. The organization of the marathon should be approached more carefully, so that all channels that want to join the joint information project will find a place there."

According to the chairman of the parliamentary Committee, a separate legislative initiative is being prepared to resolve such issues. Representatives of the Committee have already discussed this issue with members of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting.

"In fact, only the KRRT could turn off the channels. The National Council did not make any decision in this regard. On the contrary, it will now have to understand. The bill, which I have already mentioned, will allow us to deal with these issues," Poturaev said.

The marathon, he noted, has changed the programming concepts of many channels. "It simply came to our notice then. Now, in fact, the law is being violated to some extent. There is martial law. Certain things are stipulated there, but it still needs to be brought in line with all current media legislation," added the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.

On April 4, Concern RRT shut down Espresso, Pryamiy and Channel 5 from digital broadcasting. The TV channels sent letters to the President, the National Security and Defense Council, the Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
