Russian-language TV marathon FreeDom gets 165 million UAH from the state
 13 May 2022
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has ordered to allocate 165 million UAH from the reserve fund of the state budget to finance the joint Russian-language marathon FreeDom.

According to the order, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy will be allocated 165.000.000 UAH to "ensure information security of the state, protect its information space and inform the international community about the events taking place during Russia's armed aggression" under the program 3801020. The money will go to the production of the Russian-language TV project FreeDom by the state enterprise Multimedia Platform of Foreign Broadcasting of Ukraine, aka UATV.

The Russian-language marathon FreeDom was organized in early March by the media groups StarLightMedia, Inter, 1+1 and Media Group Ukraine on the basis of the multimedia platform of foreign broadcasting UATV. The task of the FreeDom marathon is to give an opportunity to learn the truth about the Ukrainian-Russian war to "Russian-speaking viewers from all over the world." In particular, the appearance of such a channel was a response to a worldwide request for a Russian-language TV channel that tells the truth about the events in Ukraine. According to Detector Media sources, most of the marathon team is based in Warsaw.

The start of the project was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, who called it "an opposition to the war in the information space" and called for "opening the eyes of Russians together." DM analyst Andriy Lyubarets analyzed the marathon and concluded that it largely duplicates the United News marathon and was addressed to Ukrainian rather than foreign audiences.
