Nataša Pirc Musar is the new President of Slovenia
 14 Nov 2022
Back in 2014, Nataša Pirc Musar could not become the General Manager of RTV Slovenia, but she is now the new President of Slovenia.

She won 53.86% of votes in the runoff of the presidential elections, while her rival, right-wing politician and former foreign minister Andze Logar, won 46.14%, according to election commission data based on 99% of the votes counted.

"I will do my best to be a true president for all, to work for fundamental and constitutional human and democratic rights and democracy,"” Pirc Musar told reporters after claiming victory, Reuters notes.

Nataša Pirc Musar is not a stranger to television. Her journalistic experience includes jobs at RTV Slovenia, Pro Plus and additional trainings at CNN, BBC and Sky News. Between 2010 and 2021, Nataša Pirc Musar was voted among the top ten most influential lawyers in the country numerous times.

In 2014, Pirc Musar was at the center of another scandal at public broadcaster RTV Slovenia. Her election as General Director was cancelled by the National Assembly which dismissed two program councilors resulting in the annulment of her appointment. She went on to sue RTV Slovenia and after three years of legal battles reached a court settlement with the management of the public broadcaster as RTVS undertook to pay a compensation to Pirc in the amount of 70.000 euros.

Pirc Musar launched her campaign for the presidency of the country in June this year as an independent candidate. She was endorsed by former presidents of Slovenia Milan Kučan and Danilo Türk. She is not a member of a political party.
