Latvian pubcaster buys generators for Ukraine's Suspilne
The Latvian public broadcaster LTV, together with the Latvian government, will allocate about 560.000 euros from the state budget for diesel generators only for the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine (NOTU/Suspilne). This will make it possible to stabilize the operation of local Suspilne TV channels under blackout conditions.
This was confirmed to Detector Media by the chairman of the board of NOTU, Mykola Chernotytskyi. "All the funds allocated by Latvia will be directed to support only Suspilne", he said. According to him, Latvia became the first country that responded to his request for assistance in purchasing generators. He spoke about the need for generators on December 2 during the 89th General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva. Chernotitskyi said that Suspilne will receive the generators thanks to colleagues from Latvian television who raised the issue and involved the Latvian government. Now Suspilne has to sign a tripartite memorandum with the Latvian side, which allocates 560.000 euros, and the EBU, which will receive these funds on its own account, purchase generators and transfer them to Ukraine. "We have to get generators with different criteria. This will significantly improve the work of our branches. The offices of Suspilne in Kyiv and Lviv are equipped with generators. The work of the branches is still vulnerable," said the chairman of the board of the pubcaster. He hopes that in January, the branches of Suspilne will receive the generators purchased with Latvian funds. RELATED
