Lithuania launches its largest campaign in support of Ukraine
 01 Feb 2023
One year ago, the world was distraught by the news that a fierce war had begun Ukraine. That war changed not only the lives of Ukrainians but also those of the people in Lithuanian and Europe as a whole, LRT writes.

It also became a period of exceptional unity, therefore, as the 1-year anniversary of the war is getting near, together with the organizations Blue / Yellow, Laisvės TV, 1K Fondas / 1K Foundation and Stiprūs Kartu / Strong Together, LRT has invited the viewers to join hands and take part in the biggest campaign in support of Ukraine - Radarom!.

During the entire campaign held between January 30 and February 24 the united organizations are calling for donations for one common purpose - to provide airspace surveillance radars that will help scan the Ukrainian sky and respond faster and more accurately to the enemy attacks.

'The radars will be used to monitor airspace. Made in Israel, they are unique in that they can detect objects of all types, sizes and speeds moving in the sky. Conventional radars are not designed for monitoring small and low-flying objects. The missiles and drones launched by Russia are posing a deadly threat to the Ukrainian defenders and civilians. These radars will make a major contribution to the prevention of the Russian death carriers,' said Jonas Ohman, founder of the organization Blue / Yellow.

The campaign Radarom! is expected to raise 5 million euros, which will be used to buy radars for Ukraine. It's expected that the first advanced surveillance equipment will reach the country already at the start of the campaign. Anyone who would like to contribute to the largest campaign for the war-torn Ukraine can do so by making a a donation of 5 euros via phone. Donations can also be made by visiting the special page radarom.lt where they can make a bank transfer with the obligatory indication 'radarom'.

'We've already proven that we shouldn't only accept those in need but even help them in the purchase of protective equipment such as the Bayraktar military drone if necessary, so we invite you to unite once again and to help Ukraine protect itself from the enemy attacks that are destroying its infrastructure and achieve victory in the fight for our common freedom', said Andrius Tapinas, founder and host of the Internet television Laisvės TV.

'Let's do our best to make 2023 the year, when the war in Ukraine will end. The sacrifice of everyone counts. One, two, three, four euros - everything matters for the common victory. Every civilian, every soldier, every euro is important. We're doing the best we can,' said Oleg Shurayevs, public figure and head of the support fund 1K.

LRT and the organizations providing aid to Ukraine are grateful for the support to business enterprises, so on a special page radarom.lt are published all those who have contributed. 'A nation at war never gets tired, so why should we?' And as President Zelensky told me, if you feel tired, think about the soldiers at the frontlines and the thousands of innocent Ukrainians losing their lives. This initiative will help protect the people of Ukraine from the Russian terror, so the contribution of everyone matters. I am positive that the people of our country will continue their relief mission until victory is achieved. I especially invite the Lithuanian business community to contribute and prove that freedom is the most important value. Let's help freedom prevail!', said Edmundas Jakilaitis, initiator of the organization Strong Together.

LRT has invited everyone to join the campaign Radarom! by donating and spreading the word around. More information and materials specifically prepared for the campaign, which can be used on social media, are available on the page radarom.lt. The campaign will last 4 weeks, culminating in a special broadcast on the LRT TV channel, radio and portal on February 24. The final concert in support of Ukraine will be aired on LRT TV.

Today, Andrius Tapinas informed on Twitter that in the two days the campaign has already raised 1.9 million euros.
