Suspilne cameraman KIA in Bakhmut
 15 Mar 2023
On March 13, cameraman and UAF serviceman Oleksiy Olkhovyk died in Bakhmut (Donetsk oblast). His colleague, journalist Anastasia Zhuk, announced this on Facebook, IMI informs.

"We used to film everything with you: starting with the borscht index, special reports from Chornobyl, ending with the positions of the Ukrainian army (back when it was still the JFO area) at the Svitlodarska arc, in Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Avdiyivka, etc. You were a great friend with whom one could to share their joy or vent their troubles. And joke and laugh lots and lots," the journalist wrote.

In a comment to IMI, Anastasia said that the first time they had gone to the front line to film together was in 2020, when they worked at Suspilne.

With the start of the full-scale invasion, Oleksiy Olkhovyk joined the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade of Kyiv, but later was sent to the front line in Donetsk oblast.

In September 2022, Oleksiy Olkhovyk was wounded in a mine explosion and was recovering for about a month.

After the recovery, he went back to the front line again – to Bakhmut.

The journalist added that Oleksiy had been killed by Russian strike from a rocket-propelled anti-tank grenade launcher.

He is survived by his wife and daughter Eva, who is less than a year old.

According to IMI, Oleksiy Olkhovyk became the 49th media worker to die in Ukraine as a result of the Russian armed aggression. Eight of those media workers died while reporting, 41 died as combatants or were killed by Russian shelling not while performing journalistic work.
