SPT and WBD extend CEE content agreement
 10 May 2023
Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Discovery have extended their content agreement across Central Eastern Europe which will see titles from the Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) slate of upcoming feature films and selected TV series shown exclusively on both HBO channels and the HBO Max streaming platform across the region.

The deal will bring some of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s (SPE) biggest titles and franchises to HBO and HBO Max customers, including the Whitney Houston biopic Whitney: I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Tom Hanks-led A Man Called Otto. Future titles on the SPE slate include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Gran Turismo, Equalizer 3, the next installment of the Ghostbusters franchise and the next feature films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (including Kraven the Hunter, El Muerto and Madame Web).

The partnership also includes the series Accused, which launched to record ratings in January on FOX in the U.S., the BAFTA-nominated British drama Without Sin and the 2023 titles Twisted Metal and Lucky Hank.

The deal will bring SPE titles to Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo.

Commenting on the development, Mark Young, EVP, Networks & Distribution, Sony Pictures Television EMEA, said: “As an independent studio with a hotly anticipated pipeline of Hollywood feature films and television series ahead of us, and an immense wealth of beloved classics in our Sony Pictures library, we are in a unique position to connect great content with audiences the world over. This new expanded deal with our partners and friends at Warner Bros. Discovery is a tremendous way to bring this content to HBO and HBO Max’s audiences across Central Eastern Europe.”

Ragnhild Thorbech, SVP, Programming and Acquisitions EMEA, Warner Bros. Discovery, added: “Extending this multi-year deal means our customers across Central Eastern Europe will continue to enjoy an incredible slate of feature films and TV series from Sony on HBO and HBO Max as part of their existing subscription. Alongside titles from WBD’s family of brands including HBO Originals, Warner Bros., Max Originals, and the DC universe, acquisitions help ensure we are offering everyone in the household the best possible mix of content”.
