MEDIA PLAY Sofia 2024 wraps successfully

The second and final day of MEDIA PLAY Sofia 2024 began with Wiktor Piatkowski, writer, showrunner, and producer from Bahama Films, Poland, discussing in detail the crucial link between storytelling and the quality of TV content. This was followed by a presentation focusing on TV business in the times of war in Ukraine.

The next panel, held by Creative Europe MEDIA, was dedicated to the international funding for TV series and films. Kamen Balkanski – Head of Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Bulgaria, Martina Petrović – Head of Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Croatia, Martichka Bozhilova – Producer, AGITPROP, Bulgaria, Alex Traila – Council of Europe, France - TBC and Lefteris Eleftheriou – Cyprus Film Commission shared insights into funding opportunities and navigating international co-productions.

The afternoon highlighted productions from Bulgaria's Medium Station, North Macedonia's OXO Production, and SOLENT FILM, showcasing emerging talent from the region. A media discussion held by Association of Distributors of TV channels (ADTP), followed by a heated conversation on TV's evolving landscape. The discussion featured top Bulgarian industry figures like Gospodin Yovchev, COO bTV Media Group, Boyko Braykov, CEO, Braykoff Media, Violina Gerdjikova-representative of BABTO, CEO of Viorainteractive, Evelin Iliev, Expert Multimedia & Digital Services, Vivacom and Iana Ivanova, President of the Board, Association of the Distributors of TV Channels.

In next session, Martichka Bozhilova, CEO AGITPROP, and Denis Karam, COO of UK's Zig Zag Productions, talked about the rise of the documentary content, followed by a showcase of local productions and success co-pro stories.

The culmination of Day 2 was CEETV’s “CEE Hot Picks” presentation which highlighted standout content from the Central and Eastern European region and offered a “forecast” on upcoming trends in the region.

The day concluded with screenings courtesy of Serbia Telekom and the MEDIA PLAY festival party, offering further opportunities for industry connections and celebration.

“Today the second edition of MEDIA PLAY Sofia closes with the promise to come back in 2025 with even more diverse range of sessions, networking opportunities, inspirational speakers and guests, ready to contribute to the continued growth and innovation of the CEE TV industry,” said Didi Maximova, Director of the festival.
