After Greece, The 1% Club opens in Hungary and Ukraine
 24 Apr 2024
BBC Studios announced yesterday two additional international licenses of Magnum Media’s multi award-winning entertainment format The 1% Club, with TV2 Hungary and 1+1 Ukraine. The new agreements mark the first format licenses of the title in the CEE region.

Both Hungary and Ukraine will go into production this summer and premiere later this year. In Hungary TV2 are set to produce the local edition.

Internationally the format celebrates a jump from ten to twelve licenses, having recently announced its tenth milestone license to Greece’s Star Channel during BBC Studios annual Showcase event. The format is regularly attracting large audiences internationally with multiple series already aired in France, Germany and Australia, and more markets set to debut this year including Mexico, the U.S.A and Turkey.

The format has just launched in Spain on Antenna 3 with a 15.5% share, the most watched entertainment premiere to date locally this season, as reported by TVBIZZ.

André Renaud, SVP, Global Format Sales, BBC Studios, said: “In fewer than two months since we announced Greece as the milestone tenth territory to commission the format, I’m delighted that the format is now coming to Central and Eastern Europe with Hungary and Ukraine becoming the next countries to join The 1% Club. With a further two series of The 1% Club commissioned in the UK after stellar ratings, it’s clear that the format’s unique appeal extends to a global audience. I’m looking forward to seeing both TV2 in Hungary and 1+1 Ukraine deliver their own turns at the entertainment show that’s not about what you know, but how your brain works .”

Gábor Fischer, Programming Director of TV2 Media Group said: “It is a great honor for us to work with BBC Studios on the Hungarian adaptation of another world hit after Dancing with the Stars. It's an incredibly exciting format that I’m hoping it will involve the whole of Hungary. There are shows on the international format market that we don't need to hesitate about making in Hungary. The 1% Club is exactly like that. It was launched 2 years ago in the UK on ITV, and since then it has been a huge success everywhere it has been shown.”

In the UK, ITV announced last week that the program was the biggest gameshow on UK television in 2023 and the channel’s biggest original gameshow in a decade.

The 2023 National Television Award winner for Quiz Game show is averaging an consolidated audience of 5.8 million viewers for its current series and is a must watch for Saturday evenings, achieving a 34% overall share earlier this month and ranking as the overall most watched program of the night. ITV have recommissioned a further two series with each new series including a Christmas special.

Its play-along App is the No. 1 Trivia/Free Game app in the UK every Saturday night with an average 175,000 viewers playing along live with each episode and there have been 1.8 million downloads to date.
