In honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, Latvian public media – Latvian Television (LTV), Latvian Radio, and the portal LSM.lv – in cooperation with the charity platform “Ziedot.lv” are uniting in a three-week-long support campaign for Ukraine which started on Monday, August 19.

During this period, daily news about Ukraine will be supplemented by special interviews and reports from the war zone, as well as stories about the everyday life of Ukrainians in Ukraine and Latvia.

“The horrors of war are something you cannot get used to! We cannot end this cruel war, but we can and will do what we can to support Ukrainians and bring Ukraine closer to victory. That is why the public media, together with Ziedot.lv, are once again uniting in a support campaign for Ukraine.

“The results of the previous campaign show that the public cares – 354.977 euros were donated in two weeks. We believe that this time, by showing humanity and empathy towards the Ukrainian people, we will be able to help them be one step closer to victory,” said Sigita Roķe, Editor-in-Chief of LTV.

The way to help Ukrainians regain a stable, free, and independent country is to continue to support them not only in thought but also in deed, which is why public media in cooperation with “Ziedot.lv” is organizing a campaign to donate Latvian-made items for the delivery of supplies to Ukrainian soldiers at the front, including night vision devices, clothing, food and so on. Let’s donate to Ukraine, while also supporting local – Latvian – manufacturers.

All donated money will be directed to support Ukraine – the distribution of donations will be organised by “Ziedot.lv” together with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, which has called for two-thirds of the donated funds to be directed directly to the purchase of Latvian-made drones, as these are most urgently needed at the front. The support project is active from Monday, 19 August, until September 8 .

Anita Brauna, Editor-in-Chief of Latvian Radio, said: “Unfortunately, we are used to war in Ukraine, tired of news about war and calls for help. But Ukrainians cannot afford the privilege of being tired and not fighting – their skies continue to be torn apart by aggressor missiles, killing people and threatening Ukraine’s statehood.

“We cannot arm Ukraine with powerful weapon systems on behalf of the Western powers, but we can do our bit by solving specific problems for a few units and giving the soldiers a gesture that they are not left alone. The simple truth that Ukrainians are fighting not only for their freedom but also for ours is still valid and we must do what we can to win this fight.”
