Latvia and Ukraine team up on cyber security
 27 Aug 2024
Latvia and Ukraine have signed a Memorandum of Understading (MoU) on cooperation in the field of cyber security.

Latvian Minister of Defense Andris Sprūds in Ukraine, during a meeting with the head of the Special Communications and Information Protection Service of Ukraine Yuriy Mirorenko, signed the MoU.

“Russia is carrying out cyber attacks against the information and communication technology infrastructures of Western countries, trying to disrupt essential and important services. The cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine in the field of cyber security is especially important, because the knowledge provided by Ukraine about the experience gained during the war allows us to implement more thoughtful solutions to strengthen our resilience and increase readiness both in peacetime and in crisis situations,” said Sprūds.

By signing the memorandum of understanding, a legal framework is created for the promotion of mutual cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine, ensuring the use of technical and human resources specifically in the field of cyber defense.

The exchange of information between Latvia and Ukraine on various cyber threats will be promoted, as well as crating bilateral communication channels with the aim of improving the reporting of cyber incidents and the exchange of experiences and best practices.

Also, the memorandum of understanding envisages cooperation in the field of education, research, development and innovation, the organization of joint public events, as well as the other activities by mutual agreement.
