Telekom Serbia focuses on AI development
 02 Jan 2025
Vladimir Lučić, the General Director of Telekom Serbia, announced that the company will hire 50 engineers next year to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) development. He emphasized that the company plans to make significant investments in AI in the coming years, Serbia Business reports.

Telekom Serbia has also made strides in supporting innovation, having established a corporate venture fund three years ago, aimed at investing in early stage. As of December, the fund has invested in 15 startups. Lučić explained that the fund, which finances startups that are still in the development stage, aims to encourage creativity within the digital community. He also shared that several global experts have identified six of these startups as potentially unique, and there is optimism that one of them could become Serbia’s first startup valued at over one billion dollars.

Lučić highlighted that going public is a major milestone for Telekom Serbia, signaling a commitment to transparent business practices. He responded to previous criticisms about the company's transparency, emphasizing that going public demonstrates a high level of openness. He noted that numerous financial institutions from the U.S. have purchased Telekom’s bonds, underscoring international confidence in the company.

During his visits to Washington, Lučić addressed various issues, including tensions in Kosovo. He recounted that the administration in Kosovo attempted to charge the company a fine, which Telekom contested.

Looking ahead, Lučić revealed that Telekom Serbia will launch its mobile network in the U.S. by June 2025, leveraging AT&T’s network infrastructure. Currently, the company has almost 10,000 television users in America.

Telekom’s portfolio is expanding beyond mobile services, with a focus on 5G networks and continued strength in the media sector. The company serves four million households and plans to surprise customers with a variety of content, including films, series, and sports broadcasts.
