CEERomania extends cash rebate scheme to boost film industry growth
Romania will extend its cash rebate scheme for another three years, Minister of Culture Demeter András announced during the Gopo Awards held at the Ion Luca Caragiale National Theatre in Bucharest. The move aims to restore confidence in the country’s audiovisual incentives after earlier disruptions.
Demeter confirmed that the Office for Film and Cultural Investments has now reimbursed all outstanding payments for projects filmed between 2018 and 2020, addressing long-standing industry concerns over delays. Industry representatives welcomed the decision, stressing that stability and transparency are key to attracting international productions. Viorel Chesaru, president of the Creative Romanian Film Makers, said the continuity of the scheme is essential for rebuilding trust with global partners. The association will promote Romania’s 30% rebate at the Cannes Film Market this May, highlighting the country’s competitive production environment. Since the scheme’s relaunch in 2024, projects supported by the incentive have generated more than €85 million in investment. The announcement comes amid political uncertainty, as the Romanian government fell following a successful no-confidence vote in parliament on May 5. RELATED
