2000 Meters to Andriivka wins News & Documentary Emmy for Best Documentary Directing
 01 Jun 2026
The Ukrainian documentary film 2000 Meters to Andriivka has won a News & Documentary Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Direction of a Documentary Film.

The award was presented during the News & Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony held in New York on the night of May 29, according to the official Emmy broadcast and reported by Suspilne Kultura.

Directed by Mstyslav Chernov, the film was nominated in six categories this year. Chernov was unable to attend the ceremony due to family circumstances, and the award was received on his behalf by producer Michelle Mizner and cinematographer Alex Babenko.

A prepared statement from the director was read during the ceremony, describing the experience of Ukrainian civilians and soldiers under ongoing war conditions, and emphasizing resilience, agency and the importance of documenting reality.

The film follows Ukrainian soldiers from the Third Separate Assault Brigade during the battle to liberate the village of Andriivka near Bakhmut, where forces advanced through two kilometers of heavily mined forested terrain.

Alongside its Emmy success, 2000 Meters to Andriivka has received multiple international nominations and awards, including recognition from the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, BAFTA, Critics Choice Awards, and the Sundance Film Festival. The film was also selected as Ukraine’s official submission for the Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
