Ukraine and the United Kingdom on Monday signed an agreement on artificial intelligence under which the two countries will join forces to develop new military capabilities and future technologies.

The AI partnership agreement, signed in Kyiv by President Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, will give Ukraine access to support from world-leading universities, researchers and technology companies, as well as the world's third-largest AI ecosystem.

The UK is set to become the first international partner to gain access to Ukraine's Avengers AI Labs, enabling the two countries to accelerate the development of AI tools designed to shape the battlefield.

“By combining Ukrainian battlefield data with British expertise, we will accelerate the development of capabilities that not only strengthen our national security but better protect our critical infrastructure and growth in every postcode here at home,” the UK government said.

The platform provides real world data and insights to train AI models, collected by thousands of daylight cameras and infrared sensors across the battlefield in Ukraine.

These sensors and cameras capture millions of objects, including tanks, artillery, air defense systems, infantry and aerial targets such as Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs, feeding the data into Avengers AI Labs to train new AI models.

Under the partnership, the UK and Ukraine will also explore other platforms for cooperation.

The UK government described Avengers AI Labs as “a goldmine of battlefield data” that will give British innovators and researchers unprecedented access to real operational data and the ability to rapidly develop and test new technologies.

In turn, the UK will provide Ukraine with access to world-leading universities, researchers, technology companies and its extensive AI ecosystem, enabling Ukraine to draw on British expertise to accelerate the development of solutions to urgent challenges and turn hard-won battlefield experience and unique datasets into technologies that will benefit both countries.

“This groundbreaking partnership will bring together Ukraine’s unrivalled operational experience with Britain’s world-class AI ecosystem, giving us the opportunity to develop the technologies of the future, changing lives here in Britain and saving lives on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Prime Minister Burnham said.

“Ukraine has become one of the world’s leading innovators in defense technology, forged through courage, ingenuity and the hard lessons of war,” he added.
